The Oromo community in the UK held a protest today against the mass killings allegedly being carried out
by Fano forces against the Oromo people and against human rights violations taking place in Oromia.

A large number of Oromos living in the UK gathered today, August 27, 2026, in London, the capital of the United Kingdom. They called for an immediate end to the killings of Oromo people and strongly condemned what they described as mass killings being carried out by Fano forces against the Oromo population.
Participants in the demonstration strongly condemned the horrific killing of civilians allegedly carried out by Fano militants on August 19, 2026, against travelers in Jidda Ayyaana Woreda, East Wollega Zone. They also called for an immediate end to the killings of Oromos taking place in East Wollega, Horo Guduru, and other parts of Oromia, urging the international community and relevant authorities to take action.
The protesters emphasized that the Oromo people have the right to live peacefully in their own country and to secure their own homeland. They also stressed that the time has come for the Oromo people to stand together and defend their country and their rights.
The Killing of Two Brothers by Government Soldiers.

In Sululta Woreda, North Shewa Zone, at a farming kebele called Efo Eko Babo, in a locality known as Werebo, two brothers were killed by government soldiers.
The brothers were Feyisa Olana Tufa and Dereje Olana Tufa. Both were farmers and family providers.
On the night of July 14, 2026, at around 11:00 p.m., government soldiers arrived at Mr. Dereje’s home and ordered him to get up, saying, “We are looking for you.” They forced him outside and, once he was at the doorway, accused him of “feeding (supporting) OLF-Shene” before shooting him dead and leaving the scene.
What makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking is that one year earlier, on January 28, 2025, his brother, Mr. Feyisa Olana Tufa, a farmer and father of 15 children, was killed in a similar manner.
Soldiers took him from his home, telling him, “Come carry our equipment and show us the way.” At the time, his brother Dereje, who has now also been killed, and Feyisa’s son accompanied them.
After taking them away from their compound, the soldiers lined up all three—Mr. Feyisa, his son, and his brother. In front of one another, the soldiers shot them and then stabbed them with knives. Mr. Feyisa was killed, while his brother Dereje and his son were taken away.
Dereje Olana and Feyisa’s son were then imprisoned and allegedly subjected to torture for more than six months. After his release, Feyisa’s son developed severe psychological trauma after witnessing his father’s killing and is reported to have suffered serious mental illness.
Dereje had been made to stand beside his brother when the soldiers killed him. Now, in the same manner, he too has been killed. The family has been left in profound grief.
This year, while the family was still mourning Feyisa’s death and before they had even removed their black mourning clothes, government soldiers killed Mr. Dereje in the same way, bringing another devastating loss upon the family.
Detained for Five Months, Killed in Public: The Death of Merera Girma Tolessa

The death of Merera Girma Tolessa is a heartbreaking reminder of the human suffering experienced by many families in Oromia.
Merera was born in Y/Walali District, Kellem Wollega Zone. According to verified information received by this website, he was arrested after authorities accused his brother of being a member of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). He was then detained for five months in Haro Gelan District Prison.
On July 31, 2026 E.C., Merera’s detention ended in tragedy. Reports indicate that his relatives, family members, and residents of Tajo town were gathered together before members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF/RIB) killed him in the center of the town.
Merera’s case also highlights the wider impact of the conflict in Oromia. Behind every reported killing is a family left grieving, a community living with fear, and unanswered questions that deserve independent investigation.
Documenting these stories is essential. Recording the experiences of victims helps preserve the historical record, supports calls for accountability, and gives a voice to those who can no longer speak for themselves.

Two Young Men Reportedly Killed in South West Shewa:
Calls for Truth and Accountability.
Reports from local sources have raised serious concerns over the deaths of two young men, Giddoo Dirribaa and Nagaa Mulunaa, in South West Shewa, Oromia, in July 2026.
According to these reports, the two men were arrested in Amayya District on 21 July 2026 after being accused of having links with the OLF. Sources allege that they were taken through areas including Dirree Incinni and Jibaat, before being killed and their bodies left in Toogoo village, Jibaat District, on 22 July 2026.
It has been reported that the person who took this young man from Miilishaa and executed him was the former head of security for Jibaat District, a man known as Zarihun. It is also reported that Zarihun has since been transferred and is now working in Shaggar.

Ethiopian Government Accused of Continuing to Kill Suspected OLF Members.
The Killing of Teacher Talilaa Girmaa Badhaanee.
Talilaa Girmaa Badhaanee was an Oromo history teacher born in Warra Jaarsoo District, North Shewa. After graduating from Addis Ababa University, he taught history in Bunno Bedele Zone, where he was known for educating students about Oromo history and encouraging peaceful civic awareness.
Following political changes, Talilaa left teaching and worked in several government positions. While serving as a local official, he opposed a proposal to execute five young men suspected of links to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA/WBO), arguing they should be rehabilitated rather than killed. His stance created conflict with local officials, leading him to leave the position and return to teaching.
while travelling from Kone town back to Addis Ababa after visiting his family, security forces stopped the public bus he was travelling on. After checking passengers’ identity cards, Talilaa and another passenger were arrested. He was detained for three days at Gachii police station before being taken with ten other detainees to a place called Qarkaa, where they were reportedly executed. His body was later identified by the black leather jacket he was wearing.
According to the report, local officials who knew Talilaa’s political views ordered his arrest, accusing him of supporting the Oromo Liberation Army after its fighters briefly entered Kone town. The report further alleges that senior district and zonal security officials were responsible for ordering his detention and execution.

News from the area: The government has continued killing people.
A man named Lamma Warquu, a father of seven children and a farmer, was reportedly killed.
He lived in Kalaala village, Haro Limu District, East Wollega Zone. His farmland was in an area known as Butujji.
According to the report, government military forces surrounded his home during the night and arrested him. They then took him from his family around 2:00 a.m. to his farmland (or the area where he worked). They accused him of being a member of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF/ABO). He was then reportedly shot and killed.
The report further states that his body was not immediately handed over to his family for burial, and its whereabouts were unknown at the time. It also mentions that other people were reportedly killed the previous night.

Abdoo Mitikkuu was from Bariisoo in Haroo Limmuu District.
He was the father of two children. He owned a grain mill and earned his living through it. On October 24, 2025, government soldiers allegedly killed him after accusing him of being a member of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF).

During the TPLF (Wayyane) era, Oromo youth who attempted to defend their people from attacks launched by the administration of Abdi Illey have now completed eight full years in prison.
The court sentenced these young men to 25 years in prison, and they are currently held in the city of Dire Dawa.
OMN (Oromo Media Network) has reported that the judge who presided over their case and handed down the ruling is of Somali descent.
The community is expressing deep grievances, believing that this harsh sentence was handed down as an act of revenge.
Over the past eight years, the public has repeatedly and exhaustively pleaded for the release of these wrongfully imprisoned youth, but to no avail.
People interviewed by OMN stated that it is a great injustice that Abdi Illey—who committed massive atrocities against the Oromo people—has been released and is living peacefully, while the youth who only sought to defend their community from those attacks continue to suffer in prison for all these years.
Furthermore, they expressed that it is deeply shameful for justice to be so distorted, especially at a time when those who rose to power through the struggle of the Oromo youth are currently in office.
Local residents also mentioned that among the detained youth, there are those who had absolutely no involvement in defending against the armed Somali militia attacks and were simply arrested wrongfully from their own homes.

Abiy Ahmed’s election is a political crime,” says the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
In a statement, the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA/WBO) said that the government of Abiy Ahmed is preparing to conduct an election while the country is being shaken by war, major political parties are not participating, the electoral board is not independent, and there are no independent observers.
The OLA stated that this process amounts to a political crime.
In opposition to this, the OLA also announced a transportation blockade that will remain in effect until June.

In Ayyidaa Kebele, Dinsho District, Bale Zone, Mr. Damboobaa and his son were killed.
Their hands were tied behind their backs, and they were executed on their own property. The father was covered with a military uniform belonging to the Ethiopian government forces. After looking at their faces, they reportedly said, “You look like OLA (WBO) fighters,” and killed them at the same place.
They were killed in Adaba District, West Arsi Zone.
Following this incident, more than 230 people were arrested in a single day in connection with the matter.

I am an Oromo. I am a lifelong supporter of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF). And today, I am an active member.
These words — my identity — could cost me my life.
In Ethiopia, to stand with the OLF is not merely a political disagreement. It is treated as a crime. And for some, it has become a death sentence.
The name Bate Urgessa will not leave my mind. He was an OLF member. An activist. A son of Oromia. And by many accounts, he was killed — not in battle, not by accident — but because of who he was and what he believed.
The Ethiopian government has denied responsibility. But the Oromo people know. We have seen this pattern before.
Bate Urgessa is not alone. Across Oromia, activists, journalists, and opposition members have been arrested, disappeared, or found dead. The charges are often vague: “terrorism,” “disturbing peace,” or simply “affiliation with OLF.”
But what crime is it to demand justice? What crime is it to speak your language with pride? What crime is it to want your children to live free?
If these are crimes, then I am guilty. And so are millions of Oromos.
Fear is Their Weapon
The government knows that fear silences faster than laws. When a young Oromo sees what happened to Bate Urgessa, they ask themselves: Will I be next? Should I speak? Should I stay quiet
But here is what the government does not understand: you cannot kill an idea. You can kill Bate. You can kill me if you find me. But you cannot kill the Oromo desire for justice.
I write this not to incite violence — but to name the truth. The Ethiopian government must be held accountable for extrajudicial killings of OLF members, the targeted assassination of activists like Bate Urgessa, and a legal system that criminalizes Oromo political expression.
To the international community: do not look away. Silence is complicity.
To my Oromo brothers and sisters: do not let fear win. Remember Bate. Honor him by continuing the struggle — safely, wisely, and unapologetically.
I stand for justice. I stand for equality. I stand for the Oromo people.
And I will never stand down.

On March 30, 2026, members of the Oromo community from the UK protested in central London. It started out as a calm protest but evolved into a strong voice raised to demand justice, dignity, and recognition.
Men, women, participated in the protests carrying placards with slogans such as “Stop the Killings in Oromia” and “Justice for the Voiceless.” People also had pictures of those who had died during these atrocities as part of their protest.
This particular protest did not just involve people but became hiriiraa where men, women, spoke up. Various languages were used, but their demands remained the same – the rest of the world could not remain blind about what was taking place in Oromia.
In their march through the streets and silent vigil at Trafalgar Square, one slogan kept reverberating in the air:
